- Hello,
-
- This morning I tried to clock my Blizzard 1260 at 66Mhz.
- And YES, it works !
- I'm using a 16MB 60 ns SIMM. I doubt that it will work with a 70ns.
- In fact 60ns may be still too slow, but I could use it without any
- crash.
- Actually I didn't try it for a long period of time.
- I ran it about 10 minutes, just the time to run some programs too
- see if it is really faster.
- Here are some results I got:
-
- Sysinfo: (I know, the results are wrong but at least you can compare
- it with the 50 Mhz version)
-
- 50Mhz: INT 38.65
- FLOAT 27.71
- 66Mhz: INT 51.37
- FLOAT 36.83
-
- Render with Lightwave:
-
- 50Mhz: 159s
- 66Mhz: 119s
-
- It seems everything get a 32% performance increase.
-
- By increasing the clock speed, the RAM access get also faster.
- So instead of 70ns they get to about 54ns. (Maybe a bit too fast for
- some 60ns RAMs.(If you get random crash, than try 60Mhz))
-
- Has the A1200 expansion slot is very closed I didn't try it for too
- long. As I'm going to install my A1200 in a tower case, I will be
- able to add a fan. The chip didn't get very hot after 10min of work.
- From what I've seen, the 68060 at 50Mhz doesn't get as hot as a
- 486DX2 or a Pentium (all without fans), so I suppose it would be
- possible to run it at 66Mhz with a fan.
-
- I will keep you informed.
-
- Any comment or suggestion are welcome.

-
- (P.S: I can't be held responsible for any damage etc...;)
-
- I don't think it would work with a Cyberstorm060 as it has a synchronous
- design. The Blizzard 1260 is asynchronous, so it doesn't make any
- problem while accessing the Amiga chips.
